So I received yet another email about using my blog to pimp yoga goods and services.
"We follow your blog and believe that your content exemplifies the interests and lifestyle choices of "Person's Name"...we think "Person's Name" would connect with your readers...as a guest blogger on your site."
No. No, I don't think so. If you actually read my blog you would realise it's a personal blog. I will only ever write about things that effect me personally and if I do write about clothing or the likes, I will only write about things I have found for myself, respect and enjoy. I am not a sell out, and don't want money from blogging either. I cringe when I see other people doing this. I read blogs for the amazing personal experiences shared, not to shop.
By using this icon on my website I am stating...
1. That I am opposed to the use of corporate advertising on blogs.
2. That I feel the use of corporate advertising on blogs devalues the medium.
3. That I do not accept money in return for advertising space on my blog.

OMG I'm a sell-out. I have ads! LOL. It seems lately though people really have this attitude that they have to be paid for blogging. It's strange to me because I've been blogging and making web sites for well over 10 years and just thought of it as a hobby.
Some of the blogs I used to enjoy have become like late night informercials lately, I've just stopped reading them. I also get a bit shitty when some popular blogs seem to constantly get free stuff - it turns me off buying that product.
LOL, you sell out you Kathryn! You know what I mean hon and if you have ads on your blog, they're clearly not offensive. Anyway, they're not in your posts and that's what bugs me the most!! The emails I keep getting to promote products, guest blogs etc. are starting to really annoy me. That's not what my blog is about and if they bothered to really read my blog, in all it's randomness, they'd realise this. Love ya true :-)
I have such mixed feelings about ads on blogs. Part of me feels I work really hard on my blog, to share everything I can and write every day why shouldn't I make an incy bit of money. Then the other part of me just thinks about that scene in Wayne's World with the Pepsi and the Nike trainers... lol...
My thoughts are it's better to be an affiliate in one or two small products that you really believe in and want your readers to share, and if they do you get a small commission on the sale. But I want them to be products I've tried and tested myself, not some random stuff.
Also I believe in karmic energy sharing. Guest blogging and so forth to extend readership to your blog and the blogs of other people, no money, just love :D
Himself has Google ads at the bottom of his blog. They don't show up in the post, just on the website. I think that's probably the best compromise. Although I do tease him about it!
Hey Rachel hon, I totally get your perspective. I am just sick of the bullish*t emails from people who clearly don't read my blog but are spamming me, asking me to pimp. Not interested :-)
Ahahahaha!
I got that email too. I just deleted it. Funnily enough, what really gave me the shits was the 'we follow your blog' bit.
Firstly, who is 'we'?
Secondly, they so clearly don't, or they wouldn't even be asking. I would have been more open to a more honest, and less pompous, approach.
PR Machine FAIL.
LOL Nadine, thanks for making me laugh even more! You probably get all the other emails I get as well, grrr. I work in publicity and this last one was a classic fail for sure. The elusive "we" is like the elusive "friend" in the celebrity mag world telling all the secrets ;-)
This will be my third attempt at writing a comment, this time I hope to finish it :).
I agree with your stance against ads. I'm not against people using Google Ads or Nuffnang as such, in context that's fine. And I've entered blog giveaways too, so not really against that either. However, there seems to be a thing amongst newer bloggers (particularly noticed in mummy blogger world) that they have to advertise, giveaway and make $$$ in order to have a successful blog and the content of their blogs suffers (if there is any content, sometimes it's one inane advertorial after another!). I think I'm happy sticking with the blogging old-school :).
