My Views on WW

Ultimately WW is a business and it needs to make money to survive. We can all talk about how evil the corporation is but this whole weight loss thing is up to us. We have to make the changes ourselves and we can choose to take on something like WW (which is a tool) or not to help us along the way. We have the choice and yes, we have the right to have an opinion too so I thought I'd share mine.

I personally just really needed help with losing weight. I tried doing it myself and I tried Lite 'n' Easy but the weight I lost, I put back on. It didn't work for me because I didn't actually learn anything. Whilst I have been doing WW, I have learnt so much about healthy eating/living, my own body and now cook!

$16.95 a week is also really not a great deal. My health is worth it and I received an education along the way. I have saved hundreds more now because I am eating better and less, drinking less and walking everywhere instead.

The meetings can be daggy but I went to the one in Newtown NSW and it was filled with some really cool people who are all in the same boat. Even the leaders have been in our situation. I've made some great friends in the area too from lots of different "scenes" and I wouldn't have met these people otherwise. I feel like I'm part of the community now.

WW does push their own products in the meetings but I'd like to think that I'm an intelligent and conscious consumer that can make up my own mind. I always found an alternative anyway and that was mainly due to price and quality. It's the WW principle I follow.

I understand that it doesn't work for everybody though and I totally respect this. I think any program you can get your head around and it works for you is great but whatever you choose, stick with it.

BTW I don't starve myself before weigh ins and I still eat what I want but in smaller portions. I am honest about it in my tracking and move my butt to compensate.

My three key points for weight loss:
  1. HONESTY
  2. NO JUNK IN THE HOUSE
  3. MOVE YOUR BUTT EVERYDAY ON PURPOSE (not just incidental)

I agree with you completely :-) You've used it the best way you can - and just look at your results! Fantastic! You've done brilliantly, and it's great that you have found something that works so well for you!

This is a great post, Mary. THere are lots of tools out there, and it's up to us to work out what works best for our individual needs.

Great post!
I tried without WW as well and it didn't work. I too have learned life long lessons and don't think I will ever go back to the way I was.

Great post Mary - you are right - each of us needs to find what works for us and then just stick to it.
As you say, it is about educating yourself to know what is right for you and putting in the hard work to achieve the results.
Take care and see you Saturday !

Here! Here! I would recommend it to people, but what I would have to say is that you have to work at it. I have tried it twice and both times it worked, and I will go back to WW once I have had my baby. The best thing is that it teaches you what food are good and bad, and especially all about portion sizes.
A great post! Have a good week. vxx

There is no magic potion is there and each of us has to find the way that works for us. Education in any form is the key and WW certainly does that. People ask me "how have I done it?" expecting some secret method but lets face it Mary hard work and determination is what is needed and WW helps us and gives us some tools we can use along the way. By now we are hopefully different people and prefer healthier eating and exercising.

And the other thing that I quite like about ww is that they don't hide that there is a cost. It isn't a "drag you in then trick you" philosophy. Every now and then I fleetingly regret not joining officially as I am sure I would have met some extra fantastic people. But then I know i am using the tools that suit my lifestyle and allow me to continue.

It is a great post and you have tactfully addressed an issue which a lot of people use as an excuse for their lack of success.

I love your last point. Move your butt - on purpose. I was tricked early on on just looking at the steps I was doing. But now I know that at least 45 minutes a day has to be on purpose. The rest is just a bonus.

Hope you are having a lovely day sunshine :D

What a great post Mary. I totally agree with you. You're right that we all need to find what works for us. BUT, you have to be 100% honest with yourself and stick to it. I tried losing weight without WW and it doesn't work for me!

Like you, WW has taught me so much about healthy cooking and living and I feel great for it!

I totally agree with you..its great to see it all in black and white. Its like a wee reminder - its all about me (lol..) i am the one that has to make the changes...

WW has worked for me, insofar i am aware. The meetings on the otherhand, well..i guess i haven't quite found the right one..

The Syd bloggers meet? Prey tell..

i'm very interested how you make a point about drinking less, to lose weight. did you really notice this? Was it more so because you ate junk when you had a vino or 2? Or that beer is a bit fatty?
