Maintenance Week 6

Goal Weight: 75-70kg (my 5kg maintenance buffer)
Current Weight: 73.4kg
Loss/Gain this Week: nil

This week I continued to weight train and started to notice a difference in my body. They're very small changes but enough to keep me interested and excited about continuing. Ab workouts are the worst as I have absolutely no strength there but it'll be worth it. I can not wear a black bikini until I'm toned! Can I do it in 2 months for a January holiday? We'll see and I'll certainly try.

Phillipa girl, where have you come from? :-) You've been a great inspiration to me lately. I've been wanting to challenge myself a little further with my exercise. I can't afford to go to yoga classes atm so thanks to you posting about the yoga + pilates DVDs, I ordered some last night. I think I've exhausted the DVDs I already have so change is always good to spice it up.

Below are the DVDs I ordered from Amazon. I'll write a review on here after 2 weeks of doing them.

  • Yoga Shakti I love Hatha yoga in the flowing Vinyasa style.
  • 10 Minute Solution Pilates I've only done Yogalates (Solomon is so annoying!) so I thought I'd try this. I love the 10 Minute Solution Series and enjoy Target Tone for Beginners. The instruction is so clear and it keeps you moving. You can program the DVDs to play a whole workout (50 mins) or just do the 10 minute segments.
For those that have just come across my site, I want to make a clear point of saying that the bulk of my weight was lost by ONLY walking. I don't like a gym environment but I bought myself an exercise bike in August to compliment walking and my yoga and weights sessions at home. I try to go to a yoga class at Samadhi Yoga when I can.

I'm also not going to entertain the idea of being 65kg now. I heard that Nicole Kidman is 63kg and she looks sickly! Many people have expressed their concern to me over the past week. I am just going to focus on staying on track where I am. Weight training will change the shape of my body and because muscle is heavier yet smaller than fat, I will look smaller at the same weight. Does that make sense? I do think I look good now, even though I still have big thighs and a tummy. I'm a woman anyway. What's a woman without her curves hey and the man likes that ;-)

We're off to Sarah's engagement today at Paddington Bowling Club. Should be a blast because we'll be barefoot bowling LOL and the weather is so fine! Beer, mmmm.

Have a great weekend!!

I think now that you are in your goal range, keeping an eye of your body shape is the best way to monitor progress. Everyone is totally different, two people of similar height may have a completely different body compisition & therefore look very different at the same weight. You may end up being around 65kg as you continue or you may find that you stay around the same weight as muscle builds. Either way, I think you are sensible & well educated in what you are achieving & will make the right choice for your body. I think you look great now & by coontinuing to tone up you'll be a damn hottie in that black Bikini.

I agree that Nicole Kidman looks terrible. Pale and gaunt. Not nice!
I only like my gym environment because there is no-one else there! I would hate it if I had to line up for machines and be watched and compared. I also agree that walking is a cheap, easy and healthy weight loss tool.
Have fun at the engagement party!

I would not worry about numbers any more ~ just concentrate on toning and keeping healthy!
Have a great night at the engagement - sounds like fun!

Firstly I wanted to thank you for the comments you left on my site. They have been a real inspiration :)

Have you tried ebay for yoga dvds? That can save some $$$.

The ten minute solution one sounds great. I don't think I'd ever do a full yoga workout at home, but I'd do that.

And it is definitely better to be toned than to be a certain weight. I can't do weights at the moment and I miss it so much. I am really starting to like my muscles :)

Hey Miss Mary, Janis here. LOL LOL. I loved being Janis and did a big singing solo after my candles were blown out. Helped along with copious amounts of bourbon and cola (woodstock no less!!). You are right in just concentrating on being happy with where you are at. I am really motivated to find out that you lost all your weight walking. That is true inspiration.

Good on ya on you maintenance you really are inspirational. Yay on the yoga dvds I seriously cannot get enough yoga atm!!
I am sure with your weight training you will be happy with the changes it makes to your body. After just 4 weeks at gym I sure feel much more strength in my abs from no strength at all.
You'll be buff in no time!
Have a great weekend and take care chicky.

Bugger being toned before a bikini, lord knows I'm not tiny but I wouldn't be seen in anything else. You should show off all the hard work you've been doing!

Great post Mary, as always. And so glad to know that you're in tune with your body and know what weight is comfortable for you. I agree - Nicole Kidman is WAY too skinny. And had to love what Dan wrote.

Thank you for your lovely comments. After all the inspiration you've given me over the last few months, it's very humbling to know that I'm giving some back to you.

I've certainly been pushing myself this week, no doubt about that. Had 3 hours in the garden this afternoon, planting an organic vegie patch. Had another run yesterday and planning for another one tomorrow morning. I also tried the AM yoga workout and it was really good! Very gentle, got me out of the grey area between asleep and awake! I don't know if I'd ever be brave enough to go to a class, but I just LOVE doing yoga at home. I've been trying as many as possible from my local library, to see which ones I like before parting with any money! I am going to check out the Better Sex yoga that you recommended too!

Hope you have an awesome weekend, and have fun at the engagement party tonight xo xo xo

Nicole Kidman is definitely too skinny. I agree with Daniel - curves are much nicer!

It is so inspiring that you lost all your weight with just walking as your exercise!

Hey there toned and terrific, hope you had a great weekend. I love the barefoot bowling at Paddington. We had our last work Christmas do there and it was so much fun. I'll pop over and send my congrats to Sarah too.

Well done on maintaining. The body shaping is such a good idea now, especially if you are building some core strength through your stomach and back. This will help you look younger when you are older simply because you will have better posture and strength.

It's lovely and wet now and we are enjoying a day inside. Am about to cook some Burmese Chicken and kick back and enjoy family time.

Hope you are having a wonderful day :)

nicole kidman looks very sick, and because of her height she definitly needs to carry more weight - Three cheers for curves!!

I think it id great you mention you lost most your weight by walking. I know I originally justified my size because I couldn't afford gym membership and stuff - what garbage we let ourselves believe! heheheheh

Sounds like you are really on track for the rest of your life. I hope the toning goes well for you - cant wait to read the dvd reviews I am in the market for some!!!

Hey kiddo!

Hope you had your sunscreen out on Saturday - it was a scorcher!

I'm glad you are listening to your body, not forcing it to a weight you can't maintain. You look fantastic at the moment, and concentrating on your muscle tone will certainly help trim any wobbly bits. I will be reading keenly for your progress and pointers - I need all the inspiration and help I can get at the moment.

Have a great week mate. I'll speak to you soon!

You sound really positive at the moment - good on you. Thanks for pointing out to everyone your main exercise while losing weight was walking. It's important for people to remember we don't need to spend lots of money or have flash gear.

Hey Mary - good thinking about not getting too skinny but changing your shape with weight toning exercises. I actually found a good article in the Good Medicine mag about doing weight training at home combined with walking and relaxation ie Yoga so definately on the right track. Have a wonderful week.lb.
